11/4/2008

Jose Luís Diego Castanedo
International Trade Department, Chamber of Commerce of Cantabria

The Chamber of Commerce of Cantabria, Spain, in collaboration with The Spain-U.S. Chamber of Commerce organized a visit to the State of Oregon for the Association of Wood Entrepreneurs of Cantabria (Asociación Cántabra de Empresarios de la Madera y del Comercio del Mueble). This visit took place from March 10 to March 16 2008.

The delegation visited various sawmills along with a wood technology clinic and show. The main purpose of this visit was not only to meet potential business partners but also to further their knowledge about Oregon’s wood sector, the largest in the United States.

In conclusion, the delegation was very satisfied with the work done by both Chambers. We are sure that the contacts and experience that were obtained during this visit are sure to be applied in furthering their endeavors.

The Regional Confederation of Businessmen of Castilla-La Mancha (CECAM) Trade Mission to the United States
10/27/2008

Due to the efforts of the Regional Confederation of Businessmen of Castilla-La Mancha (CECAM) in close conjunction with the Spain-U.S. Chamber of Commerce, a trade mission has been realized establishing contact with various sectors and companies in the United States.

The Spain-U.S. Chamber of Commerce -from its central offices in New York- has coordinated the various visits and meetings to which CECAM member companies have travelled during their highly productive stay in the United States.

CECAM joined together an exemplary representation of companies from Castilla-La Mancha representing a wide variety of industries from the region including wine production, automotive, wheat-processing, and specialty construction materials.  As such this trade mission has been a great success; not only for the wide variety and quantity of meetings realized by the represented companies with U.S. companies, but also for the excellent first impression that the U.S. companies enjoyed in meeting with the represented Spanish companies.  This important initial contact and first impression only further demonstrates the growing interest of U.S. companies in regards to Spain and its companies, products, and markets. The Spain-U.S. Chamber of Commerce is always available to offer the maximum level of support and cooperation in developing such important relationships.

The geographic locations for this trade mission varied in accordance with the different characteristics and specific needs of each of the selected companies.  Though the vast majority of the companies concentrated on the New York and Chicago metropolitan regions, for obvious reasons the wheat-processing companies focused on the “bread basket” of the United States with North Dakota as their primary location of interest.  Of course not forgetting the cordial reception of the Spain-U.S. Chamber of Commerce, all companies having visited the Chamber before visiting U.S. companies during this trip.  Additionally, a visit to the Commercial Office of the Embassy of Spain representation in Chicago was also an important opportunity for the trade mission as a whole.

Ultimately, this important collaboration between the Regional Confederation of Businessmen of Castilla-La Mancha (CECAM) with the Spain-U.S. Chamber of Commerce has brought to fruition a trade mission of great benefit to the dynamic import and export relationship enjoyed by Spain and the United States which will surely serve to foster future business and cultural exchange.
