Career Services: J-1 Professional Exchange Program

The Chamber can assist its members with the transfer of personnel to the United States for participation in training programs. The Spain-U.S. Chamber of Commerce has been granted authority by the United States Department of State to sponsor training programs for a period of up to eighteen months and intern programs for a period of up to twelve months in the following fields:

  • Business, management, commerce, and finance
  • Public administration and law
  • Information, media, and communications

Although these visas are mainly geared toward Spanish nationals, non-Spanish nationals are also eligible, as long as they participate in training programs with entities having a Spanish affiliation. Spanish companies, companies with an office in Spain, and international organizations of which Spain is a member all qualify as training entities having the necessary Spanish component.

The application process at the Professional Exchange Department of the Chamber requires the participation of both the training entity and the trainee. To begin this process, the Chamber must receive the following documents (see application above):

From the host company (View File):

  • Completed application with original signature:
    • Offer of Training application
    • Spain-U.S. Chamber of Commerce Third Party Agreement
    • Three completed and signed original copies of Training/Internship Placement Plan form DS-7002. This form may be completed electronically, and should be signed in BLUE ink. • Copy of Workman’s Compensation Insurance Policy
    • Check payable to the Spain-U.S. Chamber of Commerce for the administration fee of $1,700.

We strongly recommend that you allow at least four weeks for the entire visa process. Once the Chamber receives your application, processing may take up to two weeks (to receive your DS-2019) and it may take an additional two weeks to receive your visa.
